Kim Jong-hyun, better known as Jong-hyun He was the main vocalist of the South Korean boy band Shinee for nine years, releasing twelve albums with the group in both Korean and Japanese. Jonghyun was beginning in January 2015 with the release of his first EP album, Base. It peaked at number one on both the Billboard World Album Chart and the Gaon Album Chart.

PERSONAL LIFE & CAREER

 

Jonghyun dropped out of high school in 10th grade to pursue a music career. However, he later attended Chungwoon University but transferred to Myongji University and got his Master's Degree in film and musical studies. Kim wished to follow music ever since he was a kid, and his passion for music made him drop out of high school in tenth grade to pursue a career in music. His incessant craving for making music had him starting his own band, ‘Zion,’ in his early teenage years. 

The four-member boy band ‘Shinee’ was looking for another addition. In May 2005, they announced that Kim had been selected as one of the band members. He made his debut on the TV show ‘Inkigayo,’ and in 2006, he started working as the band’s songwriter and as one of its performers.

In April 2013, Jonghyun was faced in a car accident and injured his nose.

In December 2017, Kim started working on his next album, which was slated for a January 2018 release, and he also started touring around at the same time. The album was released after his death and reached the ‘Billboard 200’ charts, making Kim the first K-pop artist to feature on the chart.

Although he was a secretive person and did not reveal much about his personal life, there were a few unconfirmed rumors of his affairs with women.

 

DEATH

He rented an apartment in the Gangnam district on December 18, 2017, and on the same day, he committed suicide. Jonghyun was found unconscious by the police and rescue workers at around 6:10 PM in the apartment he rented. He was immediately brought to Konkuk University Hospital in a state of cardiac arrest. He received emergency CPR treatment. However, he failed to regain consciousness and was pronounced dead at the hospital at around 6:32 PM, aged 27.
